Jewellery Buying Guides
Expert knowledge to help you make confident choices when selecting diamonds, metals, and the perfect fit.
Understanding Diamond Quality
The quality and value of a diamond is determined by four key characteristics known as the 4Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat. Understanding these factors will help you choose the perfect diamond.
At My Jewellery Shop, all our diamonds are independently certified by GIA, GCAL, or IGI, giving you complete confidence in your purchase.

The 4Cs Explained
Understanding the 4Cs is the key to choosing the perfect diamond.
Cut
How well a diamond is cut determines its brilliance and sparkle. A well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully.
| Excellent | BEST |
| Very Good | |
| Good |
Colour
Diamond colour is graded from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). Less colour means more value.
| D - F | Colourless |
| G - H | BEST VALUE |
| I - J | Near Colourless |
Clarity
Clarity measures the presence of inclusions and blemishes. Most are invisible to the naked eye.
| FL / IF | Flawless |
| VVS1 - VVS2 | Very Very Slightly Included |
| VS1 - VS2 | SWEET SPOT |
| SI1 - SI2 | Slightly Included |
Carat
Carat refers to a diamond's weight, not its size. Larger carat weights are rarer and more valuable.
| 0.25 ct | 4.1mm |
| 0.50 ct | 5.1mm |
| 0.75 ct | 5.9mm |
| 1.00 ct | POPULAR 6.5mm |
| 1.50 ct | 7.4mm |
| 2.00 ct | 8.2mm |

Each metal has unique properties that affect durability, appearance, and price. Consider your lifestyle, skin sensitivity, and personal style when choosing a metal.
At My Jewellery Shop, we work with the finest precious metals to create pieces that last a lifetime. Our team can help you choose the perfect metal for your piece.

Choosing the Right Metal
Consider these key factors when selecting a metal for your jewellery.
Skin Sensitivity
Platinum and palladium are naturally hypoallergenic, making them ideal for sensitive skin. 18K gold is generally well-tolerated, while lower karat golds may cause reactions in some people.
Lifestyle
If you work with your hands or lead an active lifestyle, consider platinum for its superior scratch resistance. White gold and yellow gold are excellent all-rounders for everyday wear.
Gemstone Pairing
White metals (platinum, white gold) enhance the brilliance of diamonds and colourless stones. Yellow and rose gold create beautiful contrast with coloured gemstones and warmer-toned diamonds.
Budget
Sterling silver offers the most affordable entry point. 9K gold provides excellent durability at great value. 18K gold is the luxury standard. Platinum commands a premium for its rarity and purity.
