Soldering Your Rings Together
What is Ring Soldering
Ring soldering is the process of joining multiple rings together. This is done by melting down and adding a filler metal into the joints between the rings. The filler metal has a lower melting point, which means the original rings will not be damaged in the process. My Jewellery Shop does what is called ‘spot soldering’, meaning that only the base or lower half of the rings are joined. While soldering along the entire ring is possible, spot soldering ensures that the stones and settings aren't affected and from the top, it still looks like multiple rings.
Why You Should Do It
The biggest pro of soldering your rings together is to protect them from wear and tear. When wearing multiple rings on the same finger, over time they will rub together and damage the metal and settings. Soldering your rings together will reduce this wear and tear and preserve the beauty. Do your rings slide around? Another great benefit is that it will ensure your engagement ring, wedding ring, and eternity ring will always be aligned and match up. This is particularly important if your rings have shoulder stones that were designed to match.
To Remember
If you choose to solder your rings this means you will have to wear both/all your rings together always. Some of our clients that are constantly using their hands (i.e. nurses, chefs, fitness instructors) or who have very active lifestyles often choose to wear their wedding band every day and their engagement ring only on special occasions. If this sounds like you, we would recommend not taking the step in soldering your rings together.
