What are Lab Grown Diamonds?
One of the most exciting new developments in the jewellery industry is the rise of Lab Created Diamonds. Lab grown diamonds are graded with the same standards as mined diamonds. Each diamond from My Jewellery Shop comes with either an IGI, GIA, or GCAL certification, including your diamonds Gemprint. This unique optical fingerprint means your diamond can be positively identified in seconds giving you peace of mind. All grown diamonds from 0.01cts to 4cts are guaranteed to be exquisitely cut type IIA.
How are they made?
Lab grown diamonds are grown above the ground rather than below the ground by simulating the natural conditions of the earth and are identical in chemical, optical and physical composition in that of a mined diamond. Two methods are commonly used in creating high-quality authentic diamonds – HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) and CVD (chemical vapour deposition). At MJS we prefer CVD high-quality Type IIA diamonds as they have the least number of chemical impurities supplying the best quality diamond available. On request, MJS can supply lab grown diamonds created using either growth process whilst ensuring the clearest and brightest diamond possible.

Due to recent technological advances within the lab-created diamond industry, the diamonds can match ‘the four Cs’ that natural diamonds possess including – cut, clarity, colour and carat. As created diamonds are grown in a controlled environment, this results in lower costs, fewer environmental impacts and consistently higher quality, meaning that you can choose a bigger and better diamond for a lower cost! Choosing a lab grown diamond also ensures a wider variety of diamonds to choose from, compared to mined diamonds, to ensure you can choose your perfect diamond of the best quality. Lab grown diamonds can also be made in a variety of colours to suit your desired look!
Lab Grown Diamonds vs. Natural Diamonds
Lab grown diamond technology has been tried and tested for over 50 years within the industry, with major advancements seen throughout the past decade with increasing quality and production lines. Due to the advanced technology that allows lab-created diamonds to be created, many jewellers cannot tell natural diamonds apart from lab diamonds without advanced specialist equipment. With identical compositions, lab grown diamonds are a beautiful sustainable choice to add a little sparkle to your life whilst being more affordable compared with natural diamonds.
